VICTORIA—Subaru Canada and Jim Pattison Subaru Victoria will help drive the Triathlon Canada Nation from the start line to the international podium, thanks to a new agreement with Triathlon Canada.
As the official vehicle partner of the national body, Subaru Canada will provide promotional material to Triathlon Canada’s new, non-competitive, KITCan Series that is designed to engage kids under 11 to swim, bike and run. Jim Pattison Subaru Victoria will also fuel the drive to the international podium by providing a Subaru Ascent for Triathlon Canada’s high-performance program to use for travel during training, camps and domestic competitions.
“It is important for Triathlon Canada to develop partnerships with organizations who believe in the power of sport – specifically three of the first activities we all learn as kids – swim, bike run,” said Kim Van Bruggen, chief executive officer, Triathlon Canada. “Subaru Canada is synonymous with triathlon in Canada and we are happy to welcome a company who is committed to not only supporting our high-performance athletes, but to encouraging a new generation of Canadians to get active by participating in triathlons at its earliest stages.”
A training ground for Canada’s next generation of triathletes, more than 1,000 little Canucks were swimming, biking and running across the land as part of Triathlon Canada’s newly-created KITCan Series which was piloted by Triathlon Ontario in 2018. Using the baby beaver, known as a kit, as the program’s mascot, the Kids in Triathlon (KIT) series is a youth-based race program focused on having fun. Triathlon Canada’s goal is to eventually grow the program across all provinces.
Subaru Canada is teaming up with Triathlon Canada following a banner year by the nation’s high-performance program. Joanna Brown kicked off the season with a historic bronze-medal performance at the Commonwealth Games. Tyler Mislawchuk raced to his first World Cup podium along with a fourth-place finish on the World Triathlon Series, and Canada’s Para-triathlon squad all enjoyed podium performances in 2018, highlighted by Stefan Daniel successfully defending his World Championship title.
“There are tremendous synergies in performance between an elite level triathlete and a world-class vehicle. Both must possess the versatility to excel in a variety of environments while having the resilience to outlast the competition,” said Dave Forrest, Director of Sponsorships for Subaru Canada. “This, combined with our longtime commitment to promoting active lifestyles through our community initiatives, made it an easy decision for us to support Triathlon Canada’s mission to introduce more youth to the sport in addition to assisting the National Performance Centre for elite level triathletes.”
