VICTORIA—Triathlon Canada is bringing its National Championships back to its home city and one of the country’s most iconic race destinations, with registration now officially open for the 2026 Victoria National Championships, set for August 22-23, 2026.
Hosted at Clover Point Park and along Victoria’s scenic Dallas Road waterfront, the two-day championship event will welcome Canada’s elite triathletes and age-group athletes while also creating new opportunities for first timers to the sport and youth participants to experience the sport in an exciting and supportive environment.
“The return of our National Championships to Victoria is something we’re incredibly excited about,” said Rachel Macatee, interim chief executive officer, Triathlon Canada. “Victoria has a rich history of hosting world-class triathlon events, and this championship offers something for everyone – from elite athletes chasing a national title to newcomers looking to complete their very first triathlon.”
The 2026 National Championships will feature a fast, spectator-friendly super sprint format designed to make racing more accessible without sacrificing the excitement and strategy of high-performance competition.
Athletes will race along Victoria’s stunning Pacific coastline, beginning with an open-water swim before tackling a technical bike course and waterfront run surrounded by panoramic views of the Olympic Mountains throughout the weekend in the following race formats:
Elite National Championships
Triathlon Canada’s goal for the elite program is simple: deliver lots of head-to-head racing. The individual event will follow a heats/finals format over the super sprint distance featuring fast, compact bike and run courses with tight loops that will allow athletes to see – and respond to – every move on course.
Junior/U23 Mixed Relay National Championships
Mixed Relay National Championships are returning to the championship program! Provincial teams will be formed by each provincial sport organization to compete for the top spot in the country.
Age Group Individual Super Sprint Triathlon
Swim 300m | Bike 9.5 km | Run 3.5 km
Athletes will compete individually in a draft-legal format, mirroring elite-level racing. Expect fast-paced, tactical, and highly engaging competition.
Age Group Mixed Relay Triathlon
Swim 300m | Bike 9.5 km | Run 3.5 km
Teams of four athletes – two women and two men – will each complete the full super sprint triathlon in a relay format, tagging the next teammate in quick succession for an exciting, spectator-friendly race.
Kids, Youth, and Community Opportunities
Triathlon Canada is launching a new Kids and Youth program, and will be including a Kids of K-OS race in the weekend program. This is a FREE event open to kids and youth ages 3 to 15. All participants will receive a race bib, K-OS stickers, and treats at the finish line! The weekend program will also include a timed community 5k run as well as a Splash N’ Dash. Anyone registered for the triathlon event will receive a complementary entry to these additional fun events to round out a great weekend of racing. These events are designed to be fun, inclusive and accessible, providing a welcoming introduction to sport and multisport for young participants and families.
Qualification Opportunity
As Triathlon Canada’s official National Championship event, the competition also serves as a qualification race for Team Canada. As a new initiative, the top three Mixed Relay Teams in each category will qualify to the 2027 World Triathlon Age Group Championships in Hamburg, Germany.
“Whether participants are aiming for the podium, testing their limits or racing alongside friends in the Mixed Relay, or crossing the finish line for the very first time, the Victoria National Championships will have a race opportunity for everyone in the Triathlon Canada nation,” added Macatee. “Victoria offers everything you could ask for in a championship venue – a spectacular waterfront setting, a fast and exciting race course, incredible spectator viewing, and a vibrant downtown that athletes and families can enjoy all weekend. This will be a race experience we know our community across the country won’t want to miss.”
