Martin grew up in Charlottetown, P.E.I. He has always enjoyed endurance sports since he was young, but he was introduced into the sport of triathlon later than most, at the age of 16 with the prospect of the 2013 Canada Summer Games. After qualifying for PEI’s Canada Games team in 2013, Martin quickly became passionate and determined to perfect the balance of the three disciplines.
With the ultimate goal of competing at the Olympic Summer Games, Martin decided to move across the country to Victoria in 2016 to join the National Performance Centre. In Victoria, Martin balances his sporting goals alongside his academics, majoring in economics at the University of Victoria. Martin celebrated his first CAMTRI victory in Richmond, Virginia in 2019, and led Canada with a fourth-place finish at the 2023 Pan Am Games in Santiago, Chile.
A three-time PEI Junior Triathlete-of-the-Year, Martin’s first international podium came at the Magog CAMTRI event in 2018 where he finished second. The 2018 season also saw Martin selected for his first World Championships Team where he finished 23rd and was Canada’s top Under-23 male.
Martin is aiming to become a more consistent podium performer while continuing his steady progression and development in the sport.
