Daniel Damian

Daniel was a competitive swimmer and soccer player growing up on Vancouver Island. It wasn’t until  he started running in high school that he found out about triathlon when team sports were shut down due to COVID. His dad was big into biking so he also started biking to be fully independent and get him around his hometown. When the COVID lockdown arrived, Daniel put the three disciplines together and has never looked back since hooking up with coach Kelly Guest. 

He loves competing in Europe because of the atmosphere, particularly Hamburg due to the size of the crowds and the thrill of racing I the centre of one of Europe’s biggest cities. 

Daniel is a well-rouded athlete. He won three provincial soccer titles and compete at National Championships with his squad – Vancouver Island Wave. He also played in two of the biggest youth soccer tournaments in the world across the pond in Sweden and England. 

Did You Know … Daniel is currently in the process of completing his undergraduate degree in biology with a focus on achieving his Bachelor of Science at the University of Victoria. He is also part of UVic’s cross-country running and track teams. He enjoys raquet sports and considers Michael Philps his hero for his relentless drive to become the greatest swimmer in history. He has traveled abroad with this family growing up, something he truly values, and as a result attended 10 different public schools throughout this childhood which he cites to be enriching and fun experience that has shaped him into the person he is today.
