Stefan Daniel est entré dans l’histoire en 2016 en devenant le premier triathlète canadien à remporter une médaille aux Jeux paralympiques d’été lorsque le sport a fait ses débuts paralympiques à Rio de Janeiro. Il a remporté sa deuxième médaille paralympique en 2021 lorsqu’il a décroché le bronze à Tokyo.
Stefan, l’un des para-triathlètes les plus réguliers au monde, a connu une saison de rêve en 2015 pour préparer son premier triomphe paralympique, en remportant sa première médaille d’or aux championnats du monde de para-triathlon à Chicago. Il a battu son principal rival – l’Allemand Martin Schultz – pour la première fois de sa carrière. Il a également attiré l’attention de la nation en remportant les championnats nationaux juniors pour personnes valides.
Stefan a constamment prouvé qu’il était l’un des meilleurs para-triathlètes à suivre. Il a remporté cinq titres consécutifs de champion du monde de para-triathlon avant de décrocher une médaille d’argent lors de l’événement phare de 2023.
Stefan était motivé pour revenir au sommet du monde du para-triathlon avec une victoire à Paris 2024. Il était en tête tout au long de la course jusqu’à ce qu’une chute déchirante dans le dernier tour de vélo vienne anéantir ses espoirs de médaille d’or.
Stefan s’est racheté de Paris 2024 en remportant ses sixièmes championnats du monde de triathlon para à Torremolinos-Andalucia, ESP.
Né avec une main radiale bilatérale, le bras droit étant nettement plus touché, Stefan a commencé le triathlon après avoir remporté des titres nationaux en cross-country au lycée et acquis une expérience internationale en paranatation. Il a remporté une médaille de bronze et une médaille d’argent lors de ses deux premières participations aux championnats du monde de para-triathlon.
Stefan a commencé à participer à des compétitions de para-triathlon en 2013, à l’âge de 16 ans, après avoir commencé sa carrière de para-nageur à 12 ans. Stephen Burke, entraîneur local de paracyclisme, a
aidé Stefan à modifier un vélo de course pour l’adapter à son handicap et c’est à partir de là que sa carrière de triathlète a pris son envol.
