NEW PLYMOUTH, <\/strong>NZL<\/strong>-Tyler Mislawchuk a lutt\u00e9 contre des crampes dans les jambes pour obtenir une neuvi\u00e8me place \u00e0 la Coupe du monde de triathlon de New Plymouth, dimanche.<\/p>\n

L’athl\u00e8te de 28 ans \u00e9tait dans la course aux m\u00e9dailles avec les meilleurs mondiaux tout au long de la course de distance sprint o\u00f9 il a r\u00e9alis\u00e9 un temps de 57 : 18 pour la neuvi\u00e8me place.<\/p>\n

\u00ab\u00a0Les athl\u00e8tes en veulent toujours un peu plus, mais c’\u00e9tait une course solide\u00a0\u00bb, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 le r\u00e9sident d’Oak Bluff, au Manitoba.<\/p>\n

Mislawchuk s’est attaqu\u00e9 \u00e0 la natation de 750 m\u00e8tres dans la mer de Tasman, o\u00f9 il est sorti de l’eau avec 19 secondes de retard sur les leaders, avant d’enfourcher son v\u00e9lo pour un parcours de 20 kilom\u00e8tres dans les collines courtes et abruptes autour du mont Taranaki.<\/p>\n

\u00ab\u00a0Au moment o\u00f9 nous sommes arriv\u00e9s au sommet de la premi\u00e8re colline, j’avais rejoint le groupe de t\u00eate, c’\u00e9tait donc un effort massif sur le v\u00e9lo dont j’\u00e9tais vraiment fier\u00a0\u00bb, a ajout\u00e9 Mislawchuk, qui r\u00e9duisait l’\u00e9cart avec le peloton de t\u00eate avec un trio de coureurs. \u00ab\u00a0J’\u00e9tais dans le coup toute la journ\u00e9e, et \u00e0 l’avant, donc je suis fier de \u00e7a.<\/p>\n

\u00ab\u00a0Nous avons mis 90 secondes au groupe de chasse. Sur une distance de sprint, cela montre \u00e0 quel point ces gars-l\u00e0 roulaient dur. J’ai un peu pay\u00e9 pour cet effort.<\/p>\n

Roulant \u00e0 l’avant du peloton dans la deuxi\u00e8me transition, Mislawchuk s’est mis en mode bataille lorsque les pieds ont touch\u00e9 la chauss\u00e9e pour la course de cinq kilom\u00e8tres.<\/p>\n

\u00ab\u00a0Je n’ai pas couru \u00e0 la hauteur de mes standards. J’ai eu des crampes assez fortes\u00a0\u00bb, a-t-il d\u00e9clar\u00e9. \u00ab\u00a0J’ai couru au mieux de mes capacit\u00e9s malgr\u00e9 les crampes.<\/p>\n

\u00ab\u00a0C’est un autre type de douleur. Tu ne respires pas fort, mais tu ne peux pas aller plus vite. C’est comme une voiture bloqu\u00e9e en troisi\u00e8me vitesse et qui ne peut pas passer en quatri\u00e8me, cinqui\u00e8me ou sixi\u00e8me. J’ai fait de mon mieux et j’ai termin\u00e9 dans les 10 premiers. La condition physique est vraiment l\u00e0 et c’est quelque chose sur lequel on peut s’appuyer.<\/p>\n

Un trio de Kiwis et un athl\u00e8te portugais ont trouv\u00e9 leur 5\u00e8me<\/sup> vitesse \u00e0 New Plymouth en se d\u00e9tachant du peloton et en montant sur le podium.<\/p>\n

Hayden Wilde s’est d\u00e9tach\u00e9 pour remporter la m\u00e9daille d’or avec un temps de 55 : 57. Son co\u00e9quipier n\u00e9o-z\u00e9landais, Tayler Reid, a remport\u00e9 la m\u00e9daille d’argent en 56 : 32 devant le Portugais Ricardo Batista.<\/p>\n

Brock Hoel, de West Kelowna, C.-B., s’est class\u00e9 18e en 57 : 48. Martin Sobey (Charlottetown) a termin\u00e9 28e en 58 : 10. Liam Donnelly, de Victoria, a termin\u00e9 46e en 1:00:14, et Clayton Hutchins 52e (1:02:39).<\/p>\n

No\u00e9mie Beaulieu, de Qu\u00e9bec, a \u00e9t\u00e9 la seule Canadienne \u00e0 terminer la course sprint f\u00e9minine. La jeune femme de 19 ans s’est class\u00e9e 42e en 1:08:37. Am\u00e9lie Kretz (Sainte-Th\u00e9r\u00e8se, Qu\u00e9bec) n’a pas termin\u00e9.<\/p>\n

Deux N\u00e9o-Z\u00e9landaises ont \u00e9galement termin\u00e9 en t\u00eate du peloton f\u00e9minin. Nicole Van Der Kay a franchi la ligne d’arriv\u00e9e en 1 :02:57. Ainsley Thorpe a termin\u00e9 \u00e0 1:03:06 pour la deuxi\u00e8me place. La Norv\u00e9gienne Solveig Lovseth a remport\u00e9 la m\u00e9daille de bronze en 1:03:14.<\/p>\n
