Kim Van Bruggen joins Canada’s Olympic and Paralympic family as chief executive officer of Triathlon Canada after having led one of Victoria’s top public relations and engagement firms over the last two decades. As president and chief executive officer of Acumen Communications Group, Van Bruggen provided leadership and senior counsel to all levels of government, crown agencies, private and non-profit sectors through times of crisis, transition and transformation.
Van Bruggen is a passionate advocate – and an acknowledged expert – at developing and implementing strategic communication plans for her clients. With more than 25 years experience, she excels in project management, consultation, issues management, change management and media relations. Her specialty is taking a complicated project or program and developing a plan to make it happen and achieve results.
Starting her career as a journalist, Van Bruggen transitioned into the communications side of the media business when she began working on major sporting events including the Canada Games, Commonwealth Games and, more recently, the Vancouver-Whistler 2010 Bid, along with the Olympic Winter Games in her home province. Since then, she has proven herself a pragmatic and decisive leader and performer in the world of business and sport.
Van Bruggen is no stranger to the sport of triathlon herself, having competed in her first of many triathlons in Victoria more than 30 years ago, and has watched the sport evolve to what it is today. She has come full circle, combining her love of the sport with her expertise as a skilled corporate executive and communicator.
