Pavlos, like many Canadian children, grew up immersed in hockey, playing until he was 11. However, his athletic interests extended far beyond the rink. He enjoyed soccer, tennis, golf, and winter activities like alpine and cross-country skiing, which kept him active and fit during colder months. Triathlon, however, was the sport that ultimately captured his full attention. Pavlos first discovered triathlon at the age of eight in his hometown of Trois-Rivières. Initially, he used it as cross-training for hockey, helping to build endurance and strength. Over time, the combination of swimming, biking, and running sparked a deeper passion. Pavlos realized that triathlon provided unique challenges that resonated with him more than hockey. Today, he continues to train in Trois-Rivières, where it all began.
As Pavlos progressed, he transitioned from a hobbyist to a serious competitor, dedicating himself to triathlon. His hard work paid off, and he gained recognition in both domestic and international competitions. Pavlos represented Canada at the Junior World Championships in 2017 (15th), 2018 (8th), and 2019 (16th), competing against the world’s top junior triathletes. A standout moment came at the 2017 Canada Summer Games in Winnipeg, where he won gold in the individual event and earned bronze in both the men’s relay and mixed relay. Pavlos has since added several continental cup podiums to his resume, including a 15th place finish at the 2024 Tongyeong World Cup.
In addition to his athletic pursuits, Pavlos is focused on academics. He is currently in his fourth year of medical school at the University of Montreal, balancing the demands of a rigorous program with his training schedule. His ability to manage both commitments speaks to his time management skills, discipline, and drive to succeed both as an athlete and a student. Outside of his studies and training, Pavlos enjoys playing the piano and spending time with his family, offering him a creative outlet to unwind.
Despite the challenges of balancing competitive triathlon with medical school, Pavlos remains committed to his goals. His experiences in both athletics and academics have shaped him into a well-rounded individual, driven by determination and a focus on self-improvement. Pavlos looks up to Laurent Duvernay-Tardif, former NFL football player and medical graduate, who turned a deaf ear to people telling him to choose between sports and studies.
Pavlos also strives to be a positive role model in his community. Whether mentoring younger athletes or participating in local events, he shares his journey and encourages others. He emphasizes that success is built on hard work, resilience, and balance—not just in sports, but in life. His story serves as an inspiration to many, showing that it’s possible to excel in both academics and athletics while also nurturing personal passions and giving back to the community. Pavlos continues to make a meaningful impact as both an athlete and a mentor, motivating those around him to achieve their own goals.
